It was an incredible day on October 4th 2014.
First, our KW Cobras participated with the Mennonite Central Committee Canada’s Ontario chapter (MCC Ontario) fundraising event called the Ride for Refuge. The MCC Ontario, through this ride, partners with over 175 charities annually to raise funds for the displaced, vulnerable and exploited in our own communities.
Rides were 10km, 25km and 50km, and our Cobras collected sponsors and suited up for the chilly ride. The team support was warm, however, as they had the special opportunity to meet and have their photo taken with none other than Cindy Klassen, six-time Olympic long track speed skating medalist and supporter of MCC. The day was a successful and special one, where the club raised around $2,000 for this worthwhile cause.
But that wasn’t the end of the day. For an added treat, Cindy came to RIM Park to meet our FUNdamental, Learn to Train and Adult skaters, as well as skate on ice with our Train to Train competitive Cobras! Cindy was gracious, funny and an excellent mentor on and off the ice to our next generation of speed skaters. She is a true ambassador of the sport we love.

Thanks to MCC Ontario and Cindy Klassen for making October 4, 2014 a day our club will never forget!
