On November 21, 2017 our very own President, Angela Schrum, was honored with this year’s KW Sertoma Speed Skating Club KSA Volunteer of the Year Award. Angela earned this award through her tireless dedication to our Club, and her efforts to carry on the work of past presidents with the new challenges of a changing sport and member base. This weekend Mitchell Schrum and Claudia Heeney showed the country why they won the fastest 500m trophies in Provincial A this year. Mitchell finished with a bronze medal in the Junior 2 Selection competition and Claudia took home the silver. Both skaters finished an outstanding 6th place overall for both Men and Women in a fantastic showing for our Cobras on the National stage. On a beautiful sunny weekend at the Victoria Park Oval, a KW Cobra represented the Male 13 category at the Canadian Age Class Long Track Championships in Edmonton Alberta earlier this month. Our own Dylan Leidl finished 13th in his age class after a beautiful weather weekend of long track speed skating. Dylan will race next at the Provincial A Short Track Championships in Clarington next week. Congratulations Dylan on representing the Cobras on the oval in Edmonton, well done!...

The KW Sertoma Speed Skating Club, in partnership with Speed Skate Canada and ParticipACTION’s 150 Play List, are hosting a FREE Learn to Speed Skate session on Saturday, January 21st from 10-11am at RIM Park Lion’s Arena in Waterloo Ontario! This free session is in celebration of National Skating Day. There will be lots of on-ice fun, cake and a prize draw to celebrate our amazing sport. Canadian Junior Cobras celebrate a fanta...

Mitch Schrum and Claudia Heeney competed in both the Canadian National Junior Trials in Quebec and the Canadian National Junior Championships at the Calgary Oval December 15-18th with nothing less than impressive results. After a long weekend of hard fought races and PBs against Canada’s fastest juniors, Mitch finished the weekend 20th overall, and Claudia finished 12th! Deb Langridge is the winner of this year’s Kitchener Sports Association Volunteer of the Year Award for the KW Sertoma Speed Skating Club. She was honored with this award on November 22nd in Kitchener. Congratulations Deb on a job well done!
