Learn to Speed Skate

The KW Sertoma Speed Skating Club is proud to provide a ‘Learn to Speed Skate’ program for participants of all ages in the Kitchener-Waterloo area. This is an excellent way to try out the sport we are passionate about.

Children, teens, adults and families of any ability all welcome!

Fall 2025 Learn to Speed Skate Fees

Kids, Teens and Family Learn to Speed Skate: only $65
The whole family is welcome! Open to kids, teens and their parents.
Note: adults who are not the parent of a learn to speed skater in this program must register for the Adults-Only stream.

Adults-Only Learn to Speed Skate: $95
Open to any adult! This program runs concurrent to our adult skating hour, with a dedicated coach. Parents, if you prefer to sign up for this stream instead of the Family stream, you are welcome to do so.

Option to sign up for full season membership upon completion of the basic Learn to Speed Skate package.

IMPORTANT: Participants must already be able to balance and move on skates unassisted to be eligible for Learn to Speed Skate.

Included in Your Fee

• Three on-ice group training sessions with certified coaches, and one “mini-meet” competition as the fourth session (beginner-friendly event!)
• Four-week speed skate rental INCLUDED!
• Mini-meet registration fee INCLUDED!
• ~$20 insurance fee INCLUDED! (this fee is transferrable to a full membership)

EVERYONE 9am-12pm for a “mini-meet” speed skating competition (beginner-friendly event!)

IMPORTANT: Our programs are not custodial. A parent, guardian or responsible adult designate is required to remain in view of the training area for any participant under the age of 10 in case of emergency.

After Learn to Speed Skate concludes, coaches will place you in the appropriate training group. Children will be placed in our FUNdamentals program. Adults will be placed in the Masters program.
